A Vision for Worship at Heritage

A few months ago some members of the Heritage family attended a seminar that was intended to help bring structure to the planning of Worship Services. The presenters offered an example of how to build a Worship team at the local level. Heritage is emulating this model, which consists of the following four sub-teams:

The Idea Team—defines the themes for worship over a period of weeks

The Brainstorming Team—the creative, idea people

Helpful guidelines for brainstorming sessions:

1. ANY and ALL ideas are welcome. Let ideas build on each other.

2. Give EVERYONE a chance to participate.

3. Extend an "UMBRELLA of MERCY." It is often the "wild" and impractical idea that leads you to the one that’s "just right."

4. Ban the "VOICE of CAUTION!" At this point no one needs to hear why an idea won’t work.

5. DISPLAY the ideas where everyone can see them. Eventually the best will rise to the surface.

The Blueprint Team—the people who "put it all together"—eventually someone will have to put the final shape to the plan

Some key questions:
1. Will this glorify God?
2. Will this bring others into His presence?
3. Is there a clear "flow" to the service? Is anything potentially jarring?
4. What do I want people to remember about this service (what "moment in time" will become a "timeless moment?")?
5. Is the service balanced/inclusive? Will it speak to old and young alike?
6. Does the timing work?
7. What are the technical requirements?
8. Who needs to be contacted, assigned, etc?

The Implementation Team—the people who make sure it gets done (readers, writers, technical teams, etc.)
